All about Sue!

"Always thinking about starting Yoga but never quite getting there. I finally commenced my yogic journey at the age of 49. It was an 8 week beginners course (once a week) at an Iyengar Studio in Perth.

In the beginning it was all about the exercise but after about 12 months I was ready to embrace a Yoga practise that encompassed  both the spiritual and physical. My practise changed, deepened and continues to evolve to this day.

I once read an article that said “Some of us come into yoga a depressed person or a person that may suffer from other mental or physical ailments. Yoga will not take any of that away but it will certainly lessen the severity of it”. I am a testament to this statement as I have suffered from panic attacks for many years but the changes I have experienced in managing these, I believe is a direct result of my practise.

I have attended five overseas yoga retreats with world renowned yoga teachers.

Three of the retreats were based on the Ashtanga discipline. I have also participated in local retreats and numerous weekend workshops with interstate teachers.

I travelled to India some years ago and spent a month at an ashram, developing self awareness.

I have been so fortunate to have been a student of some wonderful teachers during my yoga journey. They were so diverse in their styles of instruction but all have had an impact on my practise and journey. Each one of them has bought something special into my life and for that I have been truly blessed. I continue to attend as a student to a weekly ashtanga lesson and my home practice is also based on this discipline.

My teaching style is best described as a vinyasa flow.  Linking the asanas  together for a feeling of continuality.  My classes are for general to intermediate students where I focus on building strength and flexibility.  Improving  core-strength and developing  the awareness of the relationship between the body, the breath, and our state of mind is the ultimate goal.

I am passionate about teaching. I am ever aware of my yoga influence on my students and I like to think they are benefiting from receiving my instruction as much as I do in the giving. To watch my regular students develop their practice, then to think that my guidance could have in some way  had a positive impact on their Yoga journey is so fulfilling it is hard to put into words.

With awareness and love I intend to continue my yoga journey well into my senior years, and I believe this is possible for any student of yoga. With faith in yourself, perseverance and dedication to practise all will be revealed.

Namaste"
